Connor’s story ...
Hi, My name is Connor and I’m 11 years old!
When I was 10 months old, I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, but it hasn't stopped me from living my life. I have done many special things through the years like therapeutic horseback riding, went on a plane to Poland to try the Adeli Suit and most recently I joined a sledge hockey team. My team is called the Durham Steel Hawks. I just played my first tournament, and brought home a silver medal. It was awesome! If you like hockey, you should really give it a try! Here is the website for my league check it out! www.durhamsteelhawks.com
I love riding around on my bike, playing soccer & break dancing. I like to do what any 11 year old does, play Wii, go on the computer and listen to music. At home I am always getting bugged by my 3 year sister, Lily. She leaves a path of destruction wherever she goes... usually my room! I have a Golden Retriever, Piper. I think we should have named her Hyper!!
When I come to Grandview, it's like a second family. I have been coming here since I was 2 years old. Around that time, I got my first set of wheels, aka, my walker! I have used many services at Grandview, and had the help of many Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
Right now I am working with Lindsay she is my Physiotherapist. We just finished the coolest session ever, wheelchair skills. I loved learning how to pop-a-wheelie. You can watch me pop-a-wheelie for :30 seconds by clicking here, it was hard and took me a couple tries but I totally rock at it now! At my last session, Lindsay even created an obstacle course for me. Next, we are working on my canes, and I can't wait!
My family and I have used many of the resources at Grandview. Lisa from the Disability Awareness Program came to my school and did a presentation all about me. Lisa’s presentation answered a lot of questions the kids in my school never wanted to ask me. I even had the opportunity to attend Campbell's Children School for 2 years, which prepared me for the school I go to now, I had the best time there!
I am usually signed up for one of the Recreational Programs offered at Grandview. I have done everything from: summer camps, martial arts, yoga, and my favorite, swimming! Just a few months ago, I learned to swim on my own. I was sooooo happy, finally no water wings!
Well, that pretty much sums ME up! Please check out the video of my pop-a-wheelie. If you see me in the halls of Grandview, I'd love to know you saw it!
