Golf Fore Grandview a Success

July 18, 2011

DURHAM REGION July 18, 2011 – It’s a hole in one for Grandview Kids!

The 15th Annual ‘Golf Fore Grandview Kids’ Charity Golf Classic hosted by Grandview Children’s Foundation raised an outstanding $59,000.00 in support of the children of Grandview Children’s Centre.

Hundreds of Durham Region children with disabilities and special needs are waiting much too long to receive critical therapy services from Grandview Children's Centre. The funds raised during this tournament is a part of the Help  Our Kids Campaign launched last year to  raise funds in support of Grandview Children’s Centre’s critical therapy services and its bid to reduce the Centre’s growing wait list.

“The Foundation would like to thank the golf enthusiasts, dedicated volunteers and sponsors who have made this event a success in support of Our Grandview Kids,” said Vicky Earle, Executive Director of the Foundation. “Our vision is that each child with special needs will have the opportunity to dream, learn, succeed and belong.”

This year, the story of Timothy, a Grandview client was highlighted with a tear jerking video.  “Grandview has done so much for Timothy, who was told before coming to Grandview, that he would never be able to walk, talk or eat on his own. Because of Grandview, he can walk with a walker, talk in almost full sentences and eat on his own! I’m so grateful to Grandview for giving Timothy the opportunity to strive,” says Patty Hann, Timothy’s mother.

TD has also partnered with the Foundation to support Grandview Kids and is excited to support programs that better the lives of children.  Through donor support the Foundation provides funds to the Centre for a range of programs and services.

Technology Creating Smiles

May 09, 2011

DURHAM REGION May 9, 2011 –Smiles and busy hands were the order of the day for the Grandview kids who were quick to use the kid friendly computers, recently donated by IBM Canada.

The Young Explorer, as it is called, is a very colourful computer designed to engage children in exciting ways.  The computer which looks like a giant toy gets lots of attention at Grandview Children’s Centre and Campbell Children’s School. It comes preloaded with literacy and numeracy applications and gets far more attention than the other computers in the room, simply because it is so child-centric.  Adults can’t even fit in the seats and playtime easily transitions into learning.
